Riprap, also known as rip rap, rip-rap, shot rock, rock armor, or rubble, is human-placed rock or other material used to protect shoreline structures against scour and water, wave, or land erosion.

Armour rocks are used to prevent or mitigate erosion due to the movement of water. Uses: Typically these materials are used in “revetment” applications such as the protection of canal banks, bridge piers, and shore stabilization.
